Your next renovation clients won't arrive by word of mouth: they'll search for you on Google. When someone types "full home renovation" followed by the name of your city, you either appear on the map and among the top results, or someone else wins the job. Construction is also Spain's least-digitalised sector according to ONTSI: whoever moves first, wins.
This guide explains, using Google's own official rules, how to get found and get asked for a quote. No tricks, no invented numbers.
How Google decides who to show
Google is transparent about this. Local ranking rests on three factors:
- Relevance: how well your business matches what the person is searching for.
- Distance: how far you are from the person searching.
- Prominence: how well-known your business is, which includes how many reviews you have and how many sites link to your website.
And an important warning, in Google's own words: "There's no way to request or pay for a better local ranking on Google." Anyone promising you the number-one spot in exchange for money is deceiving you. What you can do is work on those three factors.
1. Your Google Business Profile, complete and verified
It's the single most important local-SEO tool, and it's free. Google says it plainly: "businesses with complete and accurate info are more likely to show up in local search results." That means:
- Verify the profile (it tells Google you're authorised to represent the business).
- Fill in the correct, consistent address, phone, hours and category that match your website.
- Upload real photos of your jobs, before and after.
- Define your services (full renovations, bathrooms, kitchens) and your service area clearly.
2. A website Google understands (relevance)
The profile puts you on the map; the website gives you relevance and a place to send the client. What moves the needle:
- One page per service and area: "full renovations in [your city]", "bathroom renovation in [your district]". Generic doesn't rank; specific does.
- Descriptive, honest content: what you do, how you work, what a quote includes.
- A fast, mobile website: most people search from their phone.
- Link your website and your profile to each other to reinforce the signal.
This is exactly what I build on the web design for renovation companies page: a website designed to make local SEO work in your favour.

Google is explicit: "more reviews and positive ratings can help your business's local ranking," and responding to reviews shows you value your customers. But be careful how you get them.
Allowed: asking for reviews. You can send a message or email after the job, leave a card with a QR code, or add it to your signature. Asking is fine.
Prohibited by Google: incentivising reviews. Offering money, discounts, gifts or any benefit in exchange for a review is prohibited, as is offering something to remove a negative review. The consequences aren't minor: Google can wipe out all the reviews from the campaign and even suspend your profile, taking you off the map for months.
The winning strategy isn't "get 50 reviews by any means," it's asking real reviews from happy clients, systematically, after every job.
4. Turn the visit into a quote request
Showing up is worthless if the website doesn't convert. The essentials:
- A simple form: name, phone or email, and type of renovation. Nothing more.
- A clear call to action: "Request a free quote," visible across the whole site.
- A before-and-after gallery and reviews on display: instant trust.
- Your phone and service area always within reach.
How long it takes to work (an honest expectation)
This is where most guides sell smoke. The truth: your Google profile can start bringing calls within weeks, but organic SEO is a medium-term asset that matures over months, and it depends on your competition and your area. There's no magic number of days that's the same for everyone.
So if you need quotes now, the sensible move is to combine: Google Ads brings calls from day one (paying per call) while local SEO grows and brings requests at an ever-lower cost.
Where to start
The logical order is: a verified, complete profile, a fast website with pages per service and area, a system for asking for reviews, and a form that converts. It's exactly the flow I set up for renovation companies: from a Google search to your next job.
