Web design for law firms

Clients do not search for your firm: they search “employment lawyer Barcelona” with a deadline already running. I build sites with one page per practice area, published fees and an intake form that does not ask them to describe the case, so nothing reaches you before you have run a conflict check.

Where you are now

What is costing you clients

These are not design problems. Websites for lawyers fail on client intake and professional practice, not on looks.

The form creates conflicts

An open “tell us about your case” brings you details before you can check whether you may act. If you already act for the other side, the problem is yours, not the writer's.

The wrong people call you

With no indicative fees published, you filter by phone. Free consultations that never turn into instructions, one after another.

A site identical to the firm next door

Templates with gavels, scales and columns. Nothing that explains how you differ from the practice on the corner.

You do not appear by practice area

People search “employment lawyer” or “immigration lawyer”, not your name. A single services page competes for none of those searches.

Nobody explains the deadlines

Deadlines are the first thing that matters and almost no site mentions them. Explaining them well is the content that builds most trust and ranks best.

What I build

A website for lawyers that filters before the phone rings

Built for a small or single-lawyer practice competing against firms with marketing teams.

Intake that does not ask for the case

Practice area, general situation and contact details. Nothing else. With a visible note explaining why, which is exactly what an informed client wants to read.

Published fees

Indicative ranges by practice area, presented as your own prices. They filter before the call and set you apart in a sector that publishes nothing.

One page per practice area

Employment, family, immigration, probate, criminal. With the process, the real deadlines and the documents needed. These are the pages that rank.

Local SEO by area and neighbourhood

Optimised for “lawyer + practice area + district”, which is where a small firm can genuinely compete against the large ones.

Deadlines, properly explained

Content that says how long someone has to bring a claim and when the clock starts. It is the most useful thing you can publish and almost nobody does.

A clear first consultation

Length, price and what they take away from it. If your first consultation is not free, saying so on the site saves calls and keeps you compliant.

Trust without compromising anyone

Credibility without publishing case results or client testimonials, which is delicate ground. It can be done, and it reads better.

You own the code

No template fees, no lock-in. If one day you want to take it elsewhere, you take all of it.

This page applies my web design in Barcelona and custom tooling services to the specific case of a law firm. For the detail on what a Spanish law firm may and may not say on its website, I go through it in this guide to the Código Deontológico.

How it works

From a Google search to a first consultation

01

They search "employment lawyer Barcelona"

With a problem and a deadline already running.

02

They find your page for that area

With the process, the deadlines and what they can obtain.

03

They see your indicative fees

They know they can afford it before picking up the phone.

04

They fill a form that does not ask about the case

Area and contact only. No conflicts, no leaks.

05

You call them, checks already done

And then you talk, protected by professional privilege.

See it live

A fictional firm, complete and working

Instead of screenshots, I show you a full law firm you can walk through: run the first-consultation intake end to end and notice it asks nothing about the case, look at the published fee ranges, and read a practice-area page written with the deadlines up front. Built from scratch, the way yours would be.

No questions about the case

If they describe the case in a form and a conflict later appears, you have received information you should not hold. The form asks for area and contact. The rest happens on the phone.

How it works

From first call to a diary with instructions in it

  1. 1

    We talk about your practice

Which areas you want to fill, how clients reach you today and how you bill. We finish with a scope and a fixed price.

  2. 2

    Structure and copy

We decide which areas get their own page and I write the copy: process, deadlines, documents. I check it all against the Código Deontológico.

  3. 3

    Design and build

A custom, sober, fast site with the triage intake and the fee ranges working. No gavels, no scales.

  4. 4

    Launch

Google profile, measurement and follow-up over the first weeks to see which areas bring instructions and which need reinforcing.

Who this is for

This fits, and this does not

It fits if
  • You are a small firm or practise alone, competing against firms with bigger budgets.
  • You want to fill specific areas: dismissals, divorces, immigration, probate.
  • You are tired of giving free consultations to people who were never going to instruct you.
  • You care that your website does not compromise you professionally.
It does not fit if
  • You are a large firm with a marketing department and a corporate site.
  • You are looking for matter-management software: I do not build that, and I will explain why.
  • You want to publish case results or success guarantees on the site.

How to engage

Start with the site that filters. Add tooling when it pays.

Most firms start with the site, the practice-area pages and the triage intake, then add a client area once volume justifies it.

Common questions

What firms usually ask me

Why does the form not ask them to describe the case?+

Because receiving the details before running a conflict check is a problem for you, not for the person writing. If you already act for the other side, you have received confidential information you should not hold and you may be locked out of a matter you wanted.

The form asks for practice area, general situation and contact details. That is enough to run the check and call. The real conversation happens on the phone, protected by professional privilege. It comes with a visible note explaining this to the client: far from putting them off, it is one of the things that builds most trust, because it shows you know what you are doing.

How much does a website for a law firm cost?+

A complete site starts at €1,490 + VAT (Professional Package, with practice-area pages, local SEO and published fees). With a client area for document upload it becomes a custom quote, with a floor of €2,500 + VAT.

The price is fixed before we start. What moves it is scope: how many practice areas get their own page and whether we integrate with your practice software. The first call ends with a clear range before you sign anything.

Can I publish my fees without problems?+

Yes, as long as they are your prices and are presented as yours.

The distinction matters: what the CNMC sanctioned was bar associations circulating collective fee scales, and the ICAB withdrew its orientative criteria for costs in 2024. An individual firm publishing its own ranges is not only lawful, it is pro-competitive. On the site they are always written as the firm's own indicative prices, never citing or implying a bar association scale, with the binding quote left to the engagement letter.

What cannot go on a lawyer's website?+

What the Código Deontológico de la Abogacía Española sets out: no unfair solicitation, no disguised advertising, and nothing presented as free when it is not.

In practice I avoid guaranteed outcomes, success percentages, identifiable client testimonials and specific case results: the outcome depends on a court, and your clients' confidentiality is not advertising material. Credibility can be conveyed without any of that, and it reads better for it.

Do you manage matter files or case documents?+

No, and that is deliberate.

Matter data is among the most sensitive there is, and you already have software that holds it. Professional privilege does not exempt you from the GDPR, it modulates it: you remain the controller. I build the client-facing layer (acquisition, triage and, where needed, an area for uploading documents once the engagement letter is signed), storing no strategy and no evidence.

How long does it take?+

Between 3 and 4 weeks for the complete site, counting from when we have the copy and the photos.

The part that takes longest is usually gathering the firm's material: team photos, bar registration numbers and deciding which areas get their own page. If that is to hand, it moves quickly. A client area adds another week or two.

I already have a website. Is it worth replacing?+

Look at two things: whether you appear on Google by practice area, and what your form asks for.

If you have a single “areas” page with a list, you will not rank for “employment lawyer Barcelona”, which is where the searching happens. And if your form has an open field asking for the case, that is the first thing I would change, new site or not. If you already do both, you may not need a rebuild, and I will tell you so.
